Last Port of Call today in the magnificent land of Norway and it’s Bergen. It wasn’t an early start this morning as we arrived earlier than the other ports today. Again the port of Bergen, like Stavanger was not what I expected.
As I said yesterday we had nothing planned formally today but I was given the tip off about the Funicular about 18 months ago.
So that’s what we did. **TOP TIP ALERT**
The Funicular excursion onboard is £50pp (500NOK). We did it on our own, which cost us a 15 min walk from the ship to Fløibanen station and the 95NOK pp (£9.50) for a Return Ticket. If you are over 67years old it’s even cheaper. From what I can tell the only difference in the trip is you don’t walk to the station, you get a coach to take you instead. Doing it this way also means that if there is heavy cloud cover you haven’t wasted your money on not being able to enjoy the views.
Any way, those views – wow aren’t they spectacular, I’ll let the pictures do the talking although they don’t do them the full justice they deserve.
At the top after we had soaked up the views we had a bit of a wander around the woodland at the top and the shops that are on offer, finishing up with a giant cinnamon bun and a cup of tea. A little out of order today we got the trinkets before going back to the ship.
When we got to the bottom after securing a front row perch on the Funicular we had to track down the Pandora store. Much to mums disappointment they had sold out of all the tourist Pandora charms for Norway. Sounds like an excuse to come back earlier in the season to me (Iona!).
From the top we could see a massive pool with fountain and some gardens with a square. So with the wonder that is Apple Maps we tracked it down.
We wandered slowly back to the ship, weaving out of the various shops and 7 Elevens to try and track down sweets to take home for the Office. Mission failed unfortunately so we found a pub instead and absorbed a glass of Hansa Pilsener for our Bergen beer. Then we headed back.
We then called it a day as the rain was absolutely torrential and brought a stop to play. So lunch (Pizza) was consumed with a Salted Caramel Jude’s Ice Cream from the Lido Deck.
Sail-away was then early and due to noise restrictions was held in the atrium. Full party dances and everything.
It’s now the final Black Tie/Black & White night which means we can get all the best bib n tukker packed away (booo hisss).
The sea is pretty rough tonight so typing this up in the Planet Bar is quite a challenge because we are certainly rocking and rolling around.
The High Tides are performing up here again tonight so that must mean that Josh Nesbitt is tinkling his ivories elsewhere tonight.
So sea day tomorrow as we head back south back towards Southampton. I have WiFi at the moment, I’ve managed to do all this of 4G from land up-to now. So I should be able to give you the final update tomorrow.
