Definitely worth getting up early in the morning to see the ship arrive because you’re certainly in for a treat…WOW!
The rain came down and then down some more but that really didn’t stop us! Today we had a tour booked “Østerbo Sights and Scenery”. This involves a coach ride firstly out to Aurlandsfjord where we went to the oldest stone Church in Norway. Then on to the Østerbo Mountain Lodge for Coffee and Waffles (which were delicious), taking in the breathtaking views and sights of the falls and Aurlandsfjord along the way. At the Lodge we had the chance to walk around the grounds, meet the owners interesting collection of Taxidermy (which apparently he has personally caught!).
The whole tour was about the sights and views so I think the pictures have to do the explaining rather than I.
When we got back to port the normal procedure kicked in. Back to ship, restock the nose bags and back into the port for a local beer, mooch around and trinket collecting.
Today was no different. We headed over to the Ægir Brewery & Pub and partook in the local Ale. I myself tried a blonde (well why wouldn’t you) and Dad went for what looked like a roast beef dinner in a glass.
In the port there’s a bakery which comes highly and now personally recommended and a train museum plus plenty of other stores. Magnets and a Christmas Decoration later and a few lbs heavier (because of the rain) we headed back onboard for sail-away.
Sadly sail-away was a bit of a washout on the open deck so, top tip here! Head to the promenade deck.
Sailing out is just as good as sailing in, if not better and there is more daylight.
This evening was “Evening Casual” again and after dinner (Cod Cheeks and Gammon) it was off to the Playhouse to be Astonished.
That’s right, tonight was the new Stephen Mulhern show for P&O Cruises “Astonishing” and it really does live up to its name. To quote Stephen, the show is “Un-bel-ievable”.
Back up in what has now become the usual spot for this cruise at this time which is Planet Bar.
Well, we are just about to re-enter the Norwegian Sea before we turn North up-to Olden tomorrow. Nothing planned for tomorrow, just going to wing it, so if anyone has any tips, greatly appreciated.
